Moving to and from Spain - with the professionals

Spain is a popular country for German emigrants. The reasons are manifold. Sometimes the change of residence is related to work, because the employer wants it or a new professional start can be realized. Then the family often moves with them. Or perhaps the pleasant climate attracts people to spend their retirement here. Due to the freedom of establishment, the move to Spain is no problem for EU members.

When entering Germany there are no restrictions and customs formalities for your removal goods. But you have to apply for a NIE number. This can be done either immediately after entry at the local police station or the responsible residents’ registration office or even better you apply for the number already in Germany at the Spanish consulate. This identification and tax number is necessary for all legal transactions, official dealings and banking matters.

Your new environment

Spain stands for sun, sand and sea. It owes this to its exposed location on the Iberian Peninsula and its extensive Mediterranean coasts. Spain is a member of the EU. The largest cities are Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia. Madrid, the capital, has been the geographic, political and cultural center of Spain for centuries, with the seat of the government and the king. No less important is Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in the country. The region around Barcelona is something like the industrial heart of Spain. An important economic factor in Spain is tourism. Especially among German and British citizens, vacationing in Spain is very popular. In the foreground are the destinations Mallorca, the Canary Islands and the historic cities on the Costa del Sol.
